ToggleBeetlejuice The Musical is a stage adaptation of Time Burton’s 1988 film of the same name.
The musical follows the developing relationship between grieving, teenage Lydia and the Maitlands, a recently deceased couple who now haunt their old house where Lydia, her father Charles, and her stepmother Delia currently live.
Beetlejuice, a demon in the Netherworld, wishes to be seen by the living which can only be accomplished if a living person says his name three times (thus the famous line “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice”). He is determined for his to come to fruition and devises a plan. He convinces the Maitlands that if they want to be alone in their old home, they must scare away the Deetzes.
Beetlejuice’s attempts to make the Maitlands scary ghosts are in vain. He subsequently abandons them and the former homeowners take the challenge upon themselves only to find an accomplice in Lydia who also would like to leave the house… and can see ghosts.
